Central America November 2023 with Sharon

1 – WHERE DID YOU GO?

Cuba, Mexico, Guatemala & Belize

2- WHO WITH AND HOW LONG FOR?

I travelled with Intrepid to Cuba on an 8-day tour and also enjoyed a few nights solo in Havana prior to my tour to soak up all the city has to offer.

After Cuba, I joined a G Adventures tour for 14 days exploring the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico and crossing the border into Flores Guatemala and then another border crossing to San Ignacio & Caye Caulker in Belize before heading back up to Playa Del Carmen Mexico where my tour ended and I enjoyed a further 3 nights at an all-inclusive resort on the beach.

3- WHO DID YOU FLY WITH AND HOW WERE THEY?

I flew with United Airlines and was pleased to have the economy plus seats with extra legroom, definitely worth it for a long flight.

All flights were on time and I liked that United airlines would text message updates of your flights including your departure boarding gate.

My flights from Mexico to Cuba and return were with Aero Mexico, again I had the extra legroom seats on-board which are located right behind business class seats and included priority boarding and disembarkation.

4- WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT?

I loved Cuba and having been on my bucket list for years I was pleased that it lived up to my expectations. Cuba is like stepping back in time to the 1950’s and being a car enthusiast, I enjoyed two classic convertible car tours to show me the sights of Havana and surrounds.

5 – WHAT WAS THE LOWLIGHT?

I don’t believe there were any low lights as such but more experiences from travelling a new destination. If I had to pick a low light then the country border crossings could have been a much faster process. If they went any slower, they might go backwards!

6 – BEST THING YOU ATE?

I ate my weight in tacos and guacamole whilst in Mexico, there are so many different varieties to try and all were delicious.

7 – WHERE WOULD YOU GO BACK TO?

I’d love to explore more of Belize coastline and islands, being the second biggest reef in the world (behind the mighty great barrier reef!) there was plenty of water activities to enjoy here and the snorkelling was fantastic with an abundance of sea life including swimming with nurse sharks.

8 – TRAVELLING TIP POST HOLIDAY?

Follow the locals!

Touristy areas unfortunately come with tourist prices and can get a bit expensive when travelling for a long duration. By following the locals to local restaurants and take away stores off the beaten track I had some delicious meals and was able to mingle with the local folk and practice my Spanglish.
